Job Description

Summary:

Position is Home Based. Under the direction of IBT Coordinator and Clinical Director is responsible for the care and safety of assigned children. As a member of the ABA treatment responsible for data compilation correlation and material development as well as assisting in training new staff and providing input into the formulation of a therapeutic milieu care plan and the implementation observation and documentation of this program under the direction of IBT Coordinator and Clinical Director. Provides direct care ABA services to children ages 2-8+years. Assists with school contracts as applicable. under the direction of the Clinical Director.

Responsibilities:

A. Participates in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

Actively engages with assigned children throughout shift.

Participates in the development and operationalization of the ABA treatment plan for assigned patients in their homes and schools according to established department and unit-based procedure/policy.

Maintains and documents level of patient observation as ordered by the Clinical Director.

Assists in teaching assigned children in daily routines and actively assists with activities of daily living and basic hygiene needs.

Identifies reports and resolves potential/actual problems in the home and community as assigned.

Demonstrates appropriate critical incident follow-up skills by timely verbal reporting to Clinical Director and documentation in progress notes. Completes other documentation [ie: incident reports] as applicable.

Carries out daily assignment as delegated by IBT Coordinator and reports back by the end of the day.

Intervenes in self-stimulatory or aggressive/destructive behaviors by providing timely therapeutic intervention(s) and safety to children in distress as directed by the Clinical Director.

Maintains appropriate professional boundaries.

B. Adheres to Hospital Departmental and Program policies and procedures.

Attends staff meetings as assigned.

Maintains current CPR certification.

Maintains current OSHA ERS Safety Certifications/training/education

Attends unit/hospital staff development as assigned.

Consistently follows all hospital & departmental policies and procedures.

Consistently follows all program based policies & procedures.

C. Actively participates in the patient care planning & treatment review process under the direction of the Clinical Director.

Reviews drill list daily communicating with IBT Coordinator/Clinical

Director regarding child/family/school progress and continuing concerns & suggesting

revisions based on observations and data.

Actively participates in preparing data for treatment team meetings & daily reporting

regarding assigned patients.

Works to support therapeutic alliance with patient and family. Assists with the generalization process and teaching family members how to carry over skills outside of sessions.

Assists in training of new staff by modeling how to set up environment and reinforcement protocols and how to perform discrete trial & incidental teaching methods.

Complies and correlates data as assigned. Develops and delivers materials as assigned.

Actively participates in treatment team meetings and daily reporting regarding assigned patients.

Is aware of department QI indicators and responsibilities related to these.

Accurately documents significant patient/family observations/ABA treatment through communication & on daily progress notes.

Collects discrete trial data & incidental teaching data. Compiles as directed by IBT Coordinator/Clinical Director. Recommends revisions based on data.

Offers information and knowledge acquired through experience to other staff via formal/ informal staff development forums.

Is able to adapt care *style* to meet needs of various children/adolescents.

D. Supports and contributes to the development of ABA care plans/behavioral management.

Assists and teaches patients in activities of daily living and personal hygiene based upon patient*s abilities and directed by IBT Coordinator/Clinical Director.

Demonstrates ability to set consistent and supportive therapeutic limits within guidelines of hospital unit and department standards.

Institutes behavioral programs specific to the needs of the patient/family/classroom in collaboration with the IBT Coordinator/Clinical Director.

Participates in children*s activities such as physical & social development activities as directed by IBT Coordinator/Clinical Director.

Participates in teaching visits/family and parent training as assigned.

Has reliable transportation & transports self to homebased sessions as assigned. Consistently models to patient/families appropriate and therapeutic interpersonal staff/patient interactions.

Handles crisis situations in a safe effective manner utilizing the least restrictive safe patient care alternative.

Takes the initiative to seek formal/informal supervision incorporating suggestions for improvement/changes in job performance.

Performs other related duties as required assigned or directed by IBT

Coordinator/Clinical Director.

E. Demonstrates autonomous functioning ability in the delivery of sophisticated childcare on the milieu.

Consistently utilizes safe effective proactive behavioral management techniques.

Assumes a leadership role in creating a positive therapeutic environment in the home community and school settings as assigned.

Demonstrates ability to anticipate and address educational opportunities and de-

escalation of patient distress situations prior to patients* loss of control.

Consistently takes initiative to suggest innovative changes and additions that improve the quality of ABA care in the home community and school as assigned.

F. Exhibits leadership and teaching ability in role as *behavior health associate*.

Demonstrates outstanding initiative in organizing therapeutic activities and

compiling data for review.

Provides guidance monitoring and role modeling to less senior staff during activities.

Assists with setting up materials and environment for new child/families entering the program in an organized positive and thorough fashion.

Assists with Orienting new BHS staff interns and volunteers in an organized positive and thorough fashion.

Teaches less senior employees basic principles of milieu therapy as assigned by IBT Coordinator/Clinical Director.

Reports development/progress of assigned BHS to IBT Coordinator/Clinical Director.

Demonstrates consistent ability to communicate directly assertively and respectfully with appropriate person on issues of concern/conflict.

Utilizes objective problems solving approaches to resolve conflicts in staff and/or patient milieu.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Pursuing or attainment of Baccalaureate Degree in a Human Service or related field.Other education and experience considered and may be substituted for educational requirements at the discretion of the Hiring Manager.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Reliable transportation required.

EXPERIENCE:

At least one year of direct child ABA work with young children preferred.

Current BLS certification.

Current ERS OSHA and Safety Certification.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Performs independently within Program policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of Program policies and procedures may be required.
