Job Details:

NICU experience strongly preferred.

The Pediatricspeech-language pathologist reports to the Clinical Director of Speech-Language Pathology and is responsible for evaluating and treating adults with dysphagia and communication disorders in the acute care medical setting as needed, primarily on weekends and holidays.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Based on behavioral observations, a complete case history, and the results of standardized and informal test measures, is responsible for evaluation and diagnosis of patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders according to current professional standards, experience, and clinical judgment.
  • Recommends therapeutic intervention, referrals for further consultations, or need for additional communication and/or swallowing evaluations.
  • Prepares complete written reports of evaluations and progress reports of individual sessions.
  • Determines realistic goals, dismissal criteria, and identification of appropriate supplemental materials to enhance patient and family's understanding of speech, language, and/or swallowing disorder.
  • Understands all appropriate follow-up procedures including communication with other professional disciplines, social services agencies, and others involved in service delivery to the patient.
  • May perform other job related duties as requested or required.

Job Qualifications:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • License in Speech-Language Pathology from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • A minimum 2 years of clinica1 experience specializing in pediatric speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
  • Broad foundation of knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and treatment of adults with a wide variety of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office working conditions; exposure to patients.
