GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsibilities include a comprehensive knowledge of the role of the OR/CPD Departments function in Inventory Control as it relates specifically to instrumentation procurement and repair. The scope of judgment involves an ability to make decisions in order to carry out the goals of the department within the area of instrumentation control and cost containment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures an inventory of General instrumentation is readily available.
  • Works with Service leaders to ensure we have specialty instruments available.
  • Ensures that Kits that are out of service due to missing instruments are put back into service in a timely manner.
  • Works with the instrument repair refurbishing company to ensure that the kits are rotated out and tracked in the Impress system.
  • Stays within the operational budget for instrumentation.
  • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment
  • Work directly with the CPD Manager, as well as with the OR Nurse Manager and OR Lead Nurses of each service, to compile and prioritize the need for replacement instruments.
  • Will work directly with CPD Supervisors to facilitate the purchase of instruments for replacement.
  • Will assist and play leadership role with new projects related to instrumentation. To include the closed container system maintenance and the instrument tracking system.
  • Will be responsible for providing historical information, and as well as guidance on future instrumentation needs, for input into the preparation of the instrument and repair budgets.
  • Responsible for preparing requisitions for the ordering of all instrumentation purchases. Will be responsible for the tracking and follow-up on all of these orders. Will work with the CPD Manager and Purchasing Agent to follow appropriate ordering processes and prepare appropriate forms.
  • Responsible for the facilitation of all repairs related to instruments. Must compile and track all repair orders and report monthly to the CPD Manager to assure keeping within the budget.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining excellent working relationships with the hospitals prime instrument vendor.
  • Monitors instrument kits to assure all kits are complete. Will make suggestions for the purchase of additional instruments based on a continual monitoring of the sets. Will discuss these needs with the CPD Manager and will prepare requisitions.
  • Enforces hospital policies related to safety and job performance.
  • Maintains all files in regards to the repair and purchase requisitions for instrumentation.
  • Assists the Director of CPD
  • Manages special projects related to instrumentation.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
  • Makes necessary changes to kit count sheets
Job Qualifications:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills Ability to work well with other staff, as well as with outside venders.
  • Must have the ability to set priorities.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of windows based programs.
  • Must be both well-organized and able to work independently under stressful conditions.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma required.
  • CPD Technician.
  • Surgical Technician.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
  • Must have experience with web-based programs to include Excel spreadsheet.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the complexities of the OR and CPD

An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The job will require lifting of up to 30lbs. Data entry into a computer, standing and walking
  • Normal office work environment. With some lifting.
  • Possible exposure to Ethylene Oxide and other cleaning agent used in the department.
  • Work requires occasional/frequent/ continuous typing/computer keying, lifting of equipment and possible cleaning.
