Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to join the Fei Chen lab at the Broad Institute that is pioneering novel experimental and computational methods for studying the spatial organization of tissues. We operate in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment, with ample learning and growth opportunities as we build our team.

Our lab has pioneered new techniques for imaging nucleic acids in situ (Expansion Microscopy) and unbiased spatial transcriptomics methods using next-generation sequencing (Slide-seq). We are pioneering tools to perform genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic assays together and novel computational approaches to integrate multiple data modalities. These readouts combine microscopy and next generation sequencing readouts, revealing a wealth of information about how the genome, epigenome, and transcriptome are organized in space, and how they work together to produce complex cellular behaviors in their native tissue contexts. Our biological systems span the study of tissues during health and disease.

About the Position:

We are looking for an exceptionally creative and self-motivated individual to join us in developing new methods for studying gene expression across space and time. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external groups to solve challenging biological problems. The work will be multi-disciplinary, combining molecular biology and microscopy and will work closely with immunologists, computational biologists, chemists, and engineers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for development, validation, and optimization of novel in situ transcriptomic tools or tools that measure the dynamic interactions between cells

  • Development of novel single cell, spatially resolved transcriptomics methods

  • Demonstrate scientific creativity, contribute to a collaborative community, and work independently to expand technical capabilities and identify new research opportunities

REQUIREMENTS

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Ph.D. in bioengineering, chemical engineering, cell biology, biochemistry or related (a background in microscopy is strongly preferred)

  • Proven ability in molecular biology

  • Experience in next generation sequencing workflow and analysis

  • Strong publication record

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Must be able to handle a variety of tasks and adapt to a highly dynamic environment

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
