The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tufts University seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty member in Life Cycle Assessment for Sustainable Materials and Sustainable Infrastructure Systems as a part of School and University initiatives in sustainability and climate. The position is expected to be filled at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Applicants should have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in using life cycle and environmental systems analyses to further sustainability goals in the areas of materials and/or civil infrastructure. Areas of application may include, but are not limited to: emerging materials and technologies related to the energy transition, water-energy systems, and the interface of buildings and health. Research that integrates social science and considers aspects of equity surrounding healthy communities is preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in their area of research that attract students from various engineering disciplines, as well as contribute to the delivery of existing undergraduate and graduate curricula.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is focused on applying engineering and science to help society anticipate and respond to emerging challenges at the intersection of infrastructure, the environment, and people. Research thrusts in the department are climate and energy; health and environment; extreme events; and resilient systems. The department has 17 tenure-line faculty and 9 additional full-time research and teaching faculty. Candidates for this position are a part of the Creating the Community of Tufts Scholars (CCTS) cluster-hire program. The goal of CCTS is to increase the number and impact of faculty across the University whose work centers race, equity, and disadvantaged communities in the US and/or globally. This program will take place over the next three to five years through three unique cluster hires. This position is a part of the first cluster in the broad theme of climate. In addition to the cluster, CCTS faculty will be able to take advantage of comprehensive faculty development resources as well as other forms of support. The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and School of Engineering are located on the Medford/Somerville campus, only six miles from historic downtown Boston. The successful candidate will join an active department that offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs, and thus must demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as the potential to develop an internationally recognized research program.

Teaching responsibilities will include graduate and undergraduate courses. A doctorate is required. All candidates must have experience in civil and or environmental engineering and be prepared to teach students across engineering in life cycle assessment.
