Division Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA

UMass Memorial Medical Center, the clinical partner of the UMass Chan Medical School seeks a board-certified Maternal Fetal Medicine physician to head the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM). Candidate should be an accomplished leader, manager, and administrator. They will be responsible for directing MFM division activities, recruiting and developing MFM faculty, participating in clinical practice, and leading quality, education and research initiatives, along with fellow, resident, and medical student trainees.

MFM Program Highlights and Division Chief Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the academic leader for the division which consists of eleven fellowship trained perinatologists, two advanced practice clinicians, and three fellows.
  • Lead and guide a complementary team of specialty trained nurses, sonographers, genetic counselors, dieticians, and social workers, working together to provide our diverse patients with the comprehensive high-risk perinatal care they need and deserve.
  • Oversee and mentor departmental leaders including those directing the MFM fellowship, maternity center, obstetric quality, obstetric ultrasound, antenatal testing center, and regional perinatal outreach for the UMass Memorial Department of OBGYN.
  • Lead and contribute to the further excellence and vibrancy of the Department of OBGYN, playing an instrumental role in professional, clinical, educational, quality, research, DEIB and service initiatives and development of faculty, trainee, community, and private obstetric clinicians.
  • Work closely with Chair of OBGYN to ensure financial stability and growth of the division.
  • Foster relationships outside of UMass Memorial to grow maternal fetal medicine's presence in central Massachusetts and beyond.

Department of OBGYN Highlights:
  • Comprehensive academic department of OBGYN including large division of academic specialists in general OBGYN including fellowship-trained complex family planning and minimally invasive gynecologic subspecialists, and divisions of gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, fellowships in urogynecology and maternal fetal medicine, research, and an OBGYN residency with 6 residents/year.
  • Maternity Center that serves as the primary regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies and is the site of over 5,0000 deliveries/year. The 38,000 square feet Center is state of the art and includes: (1) 45 private labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum (LDRP) rooms which are utilized as needed for the perinatal antepartum service, the active L&D service. and mostly high-risk postpartum Mother-Baby care, (2) 3 operating rooms,(3) 8 bed triage unit, (4) 2 bed post-anesthesia-care unit, (5) neonatal resuscitation area and (6) nursery. There is an additional low-risk postpartum Mother-Baby floor that is 17,000 square feet and contains 27 private in-patient rooms and a nursery.
  • Active and participating member of the Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Improvement Network of Massachusetts (PNQIN) and the National Perinatal Information Center (NPIC)
  • Active outreach and transfer center of regional hospitals throughout central MA and northern CT.
  • A six room MFM ultrasound and perinatal testing unit. Separate antenatal testing unit opened in December 2023.
  • A wide scope of basic science and clinical research supported by the Department of OBGYN and the Division Chief.
