The Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) is the statewide professional association for physicians and medical students, supporting 25,000 members. We are dedicated to educating and advocating for the physicians of Massachusetts and patients locally and nationally. A leadership voice in health care, the MMS contributes physician and patient perspectives to influence health-related legislation at the state and federal levels, works in support of public health, provides expert advice on physician practice management, and addresses issues of physician well-being. We are currently seeking a UX/UI Designer. The world has changed, and so has the way we work. The MMS has adopted a flexible work model that allows most employees to choose where they work - at home, onsite in our Boston office, or a combination of the two - based on their preferences and our business needs. Because what matters is the work we do, not where we do it.

The UX/UI Designer is responsible for designing and delivering a modern world-class look and feel for both desktop and mobile user experiences and applications. Conceptualize, design, and code web pages, websites, html emails, and application interfaces as required by the functional specifications, scope, and deadline. Use creativity to develop and drive a design vision for MMS and NEJM Group initiatives. Research, design, and develop mockups and prototypes for end-user experience using Figma to support responsive HTML/CSS. Serve as a resource on branding including concepts, adherence, and creation of style guides. Stay abreast of the latest UX/UI trends, techniques, and technologies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to discuss requirements, brainstorm UX/UI ideas, and present design concepts.

Responsibilities:

  • Create innovative UX/UI design mockups and prototypes using Figma to support responsive HTML/CSS. Manage design assets, adheres to branding guidelines and/or creates a cohesive style guideline to ensure consistent design language is applied across products.
  • Understand and implement responsive web design to create user interfaces that automatically conform to multiple screen sizes and devices for optimal viewing experience.
  • Design and develop HTML email for desktop, webmail, and mobile platforms using best practices and persistent/detailed testing (Email on Acid/Putsmail) to ensure seamless rendering across email clients/platforms.
  • Troubleshoot browser bugs, email client incompatibilities, and script conflicts.
  • Document progress of multiple projects and effective management of bug reports using JIRA.
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum development process in close partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and promoting web design standards and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Graphic Design or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience in web design and web development are required.
  • In-depth knowledge of internet standards and web browsers, proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and the ability to write validated code in HTML and CSS are also necessary. Familiarity with Tailwind styles in Figma a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of conceptual design, state-of-the-art interaction design, usable interfaces, and user-centered design. JavaScript, PHP, and XML experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand client and user needs to provide design options that focus on user interface design are essential.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in an agile environment to successfully take online projects through their full life cycle - from concept to implementation.
  • Must be skillful at facilitating discovery and brainstorming sessions, testing, receiving, and incorporating feedback on designs, and have experience working with functional specs and business rules.
  • High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Basecamp in a Mac environment.
  • Ability to produce visually compelling and engaging power point presentations.
