Job Description

THOR Solutions is seeking a highly motivated Navy Safety & Occupational Health Specialist to support an upcoming contract at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport. The specialist will support the Navy Safety and Occupational Health (NAVOSH) program with documentation and safety web-based information services.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Safety Program Inspection Schedule: Develop and submit an annual Safety Program Inspection Schedule for review and approval. Communicate upcoming inspections to the applicable code at least two weeks prior to the scheduled inspection.
  • Data Files and NAVOSH Database: Create and maintain data files (hard copy and electronic) associated with queries, audits, inspections, and self-assessments on a daily basis. Enter identified deficiencies into the NAVOSH database and generate reports for review and approval.
  • Safety Office Web Pages: Monitor Safety Office web pages monthly and provide recommendations for updating regulations, policies, and procedures. Update web pages upon receipt of approved recommendations.
  • Safety Inspector Meetings and Minutes: Attend monthly safety inspector meetings, providing technical inputs on inspection procedures. Record and disseminate meeting minutes.
  • NAVOSH Program Manual: Update the NAVOSH Program Manual in accordance with changes to instructions and program manuals, providing recommendations for review and approval.
Location: Onsite at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, in Newport/Middletown, RI.

DoD Secret Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate will already possess an active or interim Secret clearance (highly preferred) or be eligible to obtain a new clearance upon hire.

Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • At least five (5) years' specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health for safety programs. Experience gained in a US Navy/DOD environment is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with:
    • Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
    • Safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.
    • Safety and health (including explosives) standards, environmental conditions, protective devices, accident prevention, and work processes.
  • Proficiency with common productivity software including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
