Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position supports key activities of the regulated Laboratory and reports Laboratory Supervisors and Managers as assigned.

This position may be responsible for one or more of several areas:

1) This position triages telephone calls, mail and other forms of communication on the first floor.

2) Completing assignments associated with the Laboratory Services staff scheduling and payroll.

3) Discard and release of blood components.

Essential Functions:

    Data entry for QC Donor Registration records; corrects and tracks entry errors in BECs System.
  • Responsible to initiate and prepare paperwork for supplemental testing requests.
  • Liaison for Component Research Request, including tracking and preparing billing information, and writing procedures for research projects.
  • Discard and release allogeneic components at the direction of the Supervisor.
  • Participate in component validation projects: Prepare components, record data, assist in training new processes.
  • Monitor all aspects of payroll and staffing for Laboratory Personnel.
  • The typing of clinical, statistical, medical, administrative, and educational reports. Many reports contain medical terminology and symbols.
  • Composition of letters and memoranda is sometimes required. Preparation of form letters and procedure manuals on word processing equipment. Set up of Graphic Forms and Documents.
  • Distribution of incoming mail; stamping and mailing of correspondence.
  • Accurate handling of telephone messages follows up as necessary.
  • Complete preparation and maintenance of Laboratory filing systems.
  • Ordering and inventory maintenance of stationery and supplies for the Laboratories.

Non Essential Functions:

  • Maintain professional ethics concerning confidentiality of donor information.
  • Cover duties of other Laboratory Administrative Assistants when they are on vacation or out.
  • Employ precautionary measures when handling and disposing of blood specimens.
  • Responsible for short- and long-term laboratory projects as assigned including maintaining required spreadsheets.
  • Clerical typing, filing, and faxing as needed.
  • Follow proper record retention policy.
  • Assist in component laboratory as needed performing labeling, segging or other duties as assigned.
  • Prepare and ship samples for confirmatory testing or re-entry as directed by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience/Qualifications:

3 years administrative support OR experience at Rhode Island Blood Centerr preferred. The individual must have the ability to accurately perform detailed procedures and have strong organization skills.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday

8am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5pm

The proposed hourly wage for this position is $19.72/hour.
