Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Stefan G. Tullius/Transplant Surgery Research Laboratory, Division of Transplant Surgery, Department of Surgery, Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

We are searching for an enthusiastic and energetic individual with experience in molecular and cell biology, to work on various aspects of transplant immunology in humans and mice. The work will involve studies on organ aging and rejuvenation, cellular senescence, immune-metabolism, and the effects of biological-sex on alloimmunity. There is a focus on cell signaling mechanisms and their impact on augmented immunogenicity of older organs, the dissection of mechanisms in aging and its relevance for alloimmunity, and the delineation of metabolic pathways in relevant immune cells.

Under the mentorship of the PI, the fellow is expected to participate and lead current research projects and to teach graduate students or fellow junior post-docs. Other duties include the preparation of manuscripts and the support of grant submissions.

A strong knowledge in transplant immunology, experience with basic immunological bench procedures is required; familiarity in animal care is desirable. Microsurgical experience is a plus. A good balance between independence and team spirit is essential, and effective communication skills is necessary. Applicants are expected to be familiar with basic statistical analyses, have a strong work ethic, along with writing and literature review skills. Candidates should also have experience in collaborative interdisciplinary research as evidenced by publication record, research projects, or previous positions.

The position offers a stimulating and multi-disciplinary environment and the opportunity to work within a strong local (Longwood Medical Area, Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital), national, and international research network.

- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD or equivalent graduate degree in immunology or related field

- strong transplant immunology knowledge

- expertise with basic immunological assays

- excellent communication skills

- strong scientific writing skills

- facility with basic statistical analysis

- ability to work well with others

- familiarity with grant funding mechanisms
