Mott MacDonald is currently involved in several major infrastructure projects in the rail and transit realms. We are currently seeking a rail and transit engineer to complement our team and assist with infrastructure assignments for public and private-sector clients.

You will have the opportunity to work for local clients such as MBTA as well as others across North America. The Westwood office also supports capital projects in other geographic locations including Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. This position offers opportunities to work on projects from around the world with colleagues from various backgrounds, tapping into the expertise of our global practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Rail Infrastructure design including track and alignment design
  • Prepare calculations, engineering design plans, technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Engage as part of large multidisciplinary teams and review design documents for consistency and coordination
  • Engage in verbal and written communications with clients, contractors, and sub-contractors
  • Set up common data environments, utilize collaboration techniques for information management and implement Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Training team members in technical software and collaboration tools, design coordination workflows
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals

Candidate Specification:

  • The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited University
  • Registered Professional Engineer in good standing or the ability to obtain a P.E. within 12 months
  • Minimum 8-10years progressive design experience in rail alignment and trackwork design for transit systems including subway and LRT
  • Ability to conduct design work independently and provide guidance to junior staff
  • Experience in developing track structure design for direct fixation and embedded track
  • Preparing technical documentation
  • Proficiency in using AutoDesk (Civil 3D) and/or Bentley (Bentley Rail Track, OpenRail) Software Design Packages
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • The following additional attributes are preferred:
    • Previous experience working on Bus Rapid Transit systems
    • Experience in rail alignment and trackwork design for Class I Railways
  • Proactive self-starter who's also flexible and able to adapt and learn
  • Confident and positive attitude
  • Ability to build and harbor good working relationships with our business partners, suppliers, contractors, and clients
  • Desire and flexibility to travel
