Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.

Role Introduction:

The Biosecurity team is looking to hire an enthusiastic Senior Communications Specialist as we shape the global narrative of biosecurity. In this role, you'll craft compelling stories, amplify our brand's voice across diverse platforms, and help our communications shop run like a well-oiled machine. Your work will afford you opportunities to collaborate with all parts of the Biosecurity business and Ginkgo's Sociotechnical Studio, our partners and customers in national governments and industry, journalists and storytellers alike.

Responsibilities

  • Craft captivating narratives that resonate with our target audiences and stakeholders
  • Serve as primary support to the Strategic Communications Lead on various projects such as PR & media relations, social media, stakeholder engagement, internal communications, and message crafting
  • Work to create sustainable and repeatable processes that fuel the engine of strategic communications and build strong foundations for creative output
  • Collaborate with internal teams to uncover compelling stories and translate them into impactful PR campaigns
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with journalists, and media outlets.
  • Manage the pitching of newsworthy stories and secure media placements across print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
  • Monitor media coverage and leverage insights to refine our PR strategy and messaging.
  • Create compelling content, including press releases, blog posts, and social media updates.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and brand voice across all communication channels.
  • Identify opportunities for thought leadership, cultivate thought partnerships, and craft original work

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 2-4 years proven experience supporting PR, media relations, or corporate communications for government (B2G) clients and audiences
  • Strong interest in biotechnology, biosecurity, and/or national security
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong network of media contacts and influencers
  • Proficiency in social media management tools and analytics platforms

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving priorities
  • Creative thinker with a passion for innovation and pushing boundaries

Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $80k+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental & vision coverage, health spending accounts, voluntary benefits, leave of absence policies, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) program with employer contribution, 8 paid holidays in addition to a full-week winter shutdown and unlimited Paid Time Off policy.
