The Intake Research Analyst is responsible for conducting due diligence on potential and existing clients and associated parties to assist with the evaluation of new business under prevailing ethical rules and internal policies. The Intake Research Analyst proactively identifies risks and concerns to allow proper consideration by attorneys and Firm management. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

Location: Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Rochester, NY; Washington, DC

  • Perform a high volume of timely and thorough online research, including review of litigation, media, sanctions, and other determinants of client worthiness.
  • Gather, interpret, and accurately present an organized summary of relevant research findings to attorneys and staff to aide assessment of the Firm's possible involvement with parties in connection with new and existing business, lateral hires and other special projects.
  • Communicate with attorneys, secretaries, and team members to ensure accuracy and completeness of reports and due diligence to support informed decisions by attorneys, staff, and Firm management.
  • Collaborate with teammates and others in the Firm with respect to larger and more complex projects.
  • Strive to improve processes while taking initiative to identify issues and propose solutions.
  • Remain current in research techniques and available resources relevant to providing high quality research.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality rules regarding client and Firm matters.
  • Assist with special projects and ad-hoc requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a legal or professional services setting conducting research.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • General knowledge of legal terminology, litigation structure, and legal and business research processes and resources.
  • Expert level of deductive reasoning, analytical thinking, and research skills.
  • Proficient at filtering large amounts of data and clearly summarizing information into relevant findings.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Skilled in searching online resources. Experience with Lexis and Westlaw a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface with attorneys, management, staff, and external contacts at all levels.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Ability to make sound decisions while using good judgement.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Rochester, NY: $58,172 to $83,210
  • Chicago, IL: $66,898 to $95,691
  • Washington, DC: $69,807 to $99,851
  • Boston, MA: $69,807 to $99,851

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
