About the role

We are looking for an experienced Debt Collection Attorney - Litigator to play a key role in our global collection strategy. As a Debt Collection Attorney - Litigator, you will take responsibility for legally obtaining payment from customers who have been uncooperative in paying what's owed. This will involve representing IWG in court and providing guidance to a team of small claims, arbitration and paralegal debt collection specialists. In this role you will work closely together with the Global Director of In-House Collections, Country Managers, and our legal collection and support teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Actively collect payments from debtors with unpaid invoices
  • Engage with senior internal and external stakeholders/legal representatives to negotiate payment plans, settlement offers and dispute resolutions
  • Explain and defend service agreement terms as appropriate
  • Advise key internal stakeholders on legal debt collection opportunities
  • Research cases, prepare legal documentation and initiate court proceedings
  • Assist when needed by a team of arbitration, paralegal and small claims debt collection specialists
  • Represent IWG in the relevant courts (virtually) as needed
  • Manage a portfolio of high value customer debts and legal claims
  • Plan and organize workload to ensure Court deadlines are met
  • Liaise with the IWG Legal Counsel where necessary
  • Managing direct reports as well as managing third party collection agencies and assigned attorneys in addition to the legal activities.
  • This position is focused on our North America Region specific.
  • Involve local IWG representatives as needed

Qualifications

  • Ability to drive legal debt collection and resolve commercial disputes.
  • Solid organizational skills, including the ability to priorities and multi-task in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent leadership, motivational and relationship building skills.
  • Self-starter who can work with direction but little supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to go beyond the job description to meet business goals.
  • Fluent in English.

Experience

  • At least 4 years of experience as a debt collection attorney - litigator
  • At least 2 years of experience representing large corporates in legal matters
  • Experience with arbitration (preferably AAA - American Arbitration Association) and small claims procedures in the United States
  • International legal debt collection experience is a plus
